Event logReporting > Event log (replaces Activity log)Who did what in our site, and when?

The Activity log is being retired. Its menu item is removed, and any bookmarked Activity log links open the Event log automatically.

The new Home page

Home sits at the top of your site's navigation in the Admin Center. It gives you three views of your site on one screen.

Content activity

Content activity shows how much your content is being viewed and worked on. Choose Last 7 days, Last 31 days, or Last 90 days. Each number is compared with the period just before it, so you can see whether activity is rising or falling.

  • Engagement: article views, average article views per user, and viewer feedback comments
  • Progress: articles created, worked on, approved, and published, including the average time to publish

Content status

Content status shows where every active article in your site stands today: No status, Needs content, Needs update, Needs review, or Approved. Draft versions are included.

Use it to spot bottlenecks in your review process and to see how much of your content is complete and current. A large Needs review count, for example, usually means approvals are backing up.

Site usage

Site usage shows how many people used each part of ScreenSteps this calendar month, compared with last month:

  • Published knowledge base
  • Browser extension
  • Admin Center

The total counts each person once. Someone who uses more than one channel is counted in each channel, so the channels won't add up to the total.

Event log

The Event log replaces the Activity log. It records content, process management, and administrative activity across your site, so you can audit who took which action and when.

To open it, go to Reporting > Event log. Use Filter to narrow the list.

What it records

The Event log includes activity on:

  • Articles and article requests
  • Chapters and manuals
  • Viewer feedback
  • Notifications
  • Permissions and site permissions
  • Users and user groups
  • Sign-ins (authentication)

Event details

Each event shows the affected item, the type of event, the person who caused it, and the date and time. Select any event to open its details. Where possible, the details also include a record of what changed, such as the change summary an author entered when creating a new article version.

Content health

Content health highlights the content in your site that needs attention. To open it, go to Reporting > Content health.

The page shows three counts. Each one links to a filtered list of the matching articles on the Needs attention tab of your Articles page, so you can start working through them right away.

CardWhat it countsWhere the button takes you
Articles not viewedArticles no one has viewed in the last 90 daysReview opens every article not viewed in at least the last 90 days
Articles not updatedArticles not updated in the last 6 monthsReview opens every article not updated in at least the last 6 months
Expired certificationCertified articles whose certification has expiredRe-certify opens every article with no certification or an expired certification

Articles that go unviewed for months are often candidates to archive or merge. Articles that haven't been updated in a long time are worth a quick accuracy check, especially procedures tied to policy or regulation.

Common questions

Where did the Activity log go? It has been replaced by the Event log under Reporting. Old Activity log links and bookmarks redirect to the Event log.

Why don't the Site usage channels add up to the total? A person who uses more than one channel, such as the knowledge base and the browser extension, is counted in each one. The total counts each person only once.

Does Content status include drafts? Yes. It includes every active article in the site, including draft versions.

What does "compared with the previous period" mean in Content activity? If you select Last 31 days, each number is compared with the 31 days before that. The same applies to 7 and 90 days.

Can I share feedback on the new Home page? Yes. Select Share feedback on the Home page to tell us what you'd like to see next.
