How Identity Providers, domains, sites, and your account are associated

Updated on

Background

In ScreenSteps, your account may include several domains, such as those for the Content Management and Admin Centers, as well as for each site you manage.

For example, you might access your admin area at starkindustries.screensteps.app, while individual sites could be accessed at starkindustries.screenstepslive.com or, with host mapping, help.starkindustries.com.

Sites

Each ScreenSteps site can have its own Identity Provider. The Identity Provider manages user authentication for the specific domain associated with the site. If a site uses a custom domain, the Identity Provider will authenticate users for that custom domain.

Account

Your overall ScreenSteps account also has Identity Provider settings. These settings control access to the main company domain, which is used for managing content, configuring your account, and accessing the Primary Site (unless a custom domain is set).

  • Account-level Identity Provider settings affect the admin and content management areas.
  • The Primary Site uses the account domain unless a custom domain is configured.

Key Terms

Domain: A unique web address used to access different areas of your ScreenSteps account, such as the admin center or individual sites.
Identity Provider: A service that manages user authentication for a specific domain.
Host Mapping: Assigning a custom domain name (e.g., help.starkindustries.com) to a ScreenSteps site.
